I have been coding since around 2000. I learned Visual Basic, RPG Lang, and Java during school. It was difficult, but I was so enthralled with the idea of making programs. It was not until around 2006 or so before I really saw the utility in writing small scripts that could automate repetitive tasks. Some of the first business applications I wrote were in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). Back in 2006 I did not have a good mentor but knew that I could add additional behavior to Microsoft Access. I used VBA and MS SQL to process geographic data. It was a fun time to explore things and learn at my own pace.

In 2008 I was introduced to Ruby on Rails by a new coworker. The coworker was contracting with the marketing company I worked for. Having very little time with Java it was apparent that Ruby on Rails was a much better experience then using Java to make web applications. I found myself attempting to learn Ruby as best as I could but it was not until I spent time at home tinkering with throwaway prototypes that I really learned certain techniques.

I have seen the trends and watched as the tech industry has matured in my area. I have learned good and bad ways of developing software. I have made great relationships.
